M5PBA History

Our History

The Manitoba 5 Pin Bowlers' Association (M5PBA) formed in 1972, the association is part of a broader national framework that has evolved over the years. Five-pin bowling was invented in 1909 by Tommy Ryan in Guelph, Ontario, as a variation of ten-pin bowling tailored to Canadian preferences. The sport quickly gained popularity across the country, leading to the formation of the Canadian Bowling Association (CBA) in 1927, which later became the Canadian 5 Pin Bowlers' Association (C5PBA) in 1978. In Manitoba, the sport has a rich history. Notably, in 1994, Ray Landkamer of Manitoba received a Life Membership in the C5PBA, recognizing his significant contributions to the sport. Today, the M5PBA continues to serve the bowling community by organizing tournaments, coaching clinics, and maintaining historical records, all aimed at fostering the growth and development of five-pin bowling in the province.
